Laudato Si Week 2024
‘Seeds of Hope’ is the theme for this year’s Laudato Si week, which takes place from May 19 -26.
To mark the week, you are invited to participate in an online Zoom session from 7- 8.30pm on Thursday 23 May which will consider a Christian response to the climate crisis. It will ask how we can imagine, and build, a life sustaining world.
The session has been organised by Laudato Si animators - Scotland and supported by a wide range of organisations. Laudato Si animators are members of the Laudato Si Movement, a global community of prayer and action, who help their local parishes and communities engage in ecological spirituality, sustainable lifestyles, and advocacy for climate and ecological justice. Animators work to bring Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si to life, and care for our common home.
The evening will be led by Sarah Augustine, co-author with Sheri Hostetler of So We and our Children May live: Following Jesus in Confronting the Climate Crisis. In their analysis of the signs of the times, they identify two contrasting systems of thought: systems of life, in which we live in mutual interdependence, and systems of death, based on extractive logic, part of an economic system that demands perpetual growth. They imagine a different way forward: one which has at its core ecological justice and right relationships with God, all of humanity and all living beings on the planet.
Sarah will lead the session on 23 May.
