John Irvine: an appreciation

John Irvine, who died of Covid-19 in May, was a retired lecturer in English and Drama at Aberdeen College. Like many Open House subscribers and contributors, he had a keen interest in Scottish history, and devoted much of his time in retirement to research and writing about people and events from the past. John contributed several articles to Open House. He lived in Edinburgh, where he was a frequent visitor to the National Library in pursuit of his historical research, and in France, where he and his wife Alex had a house.
