Young people and the Church

I survived lockdown with regular contact with young Catholic adults. All World Youth Day veterans, we sought support and built resilience together. But that support made me very conscious that not every young Catholic had the same experience; it’s been a lonely time for many of my peers in the faith.

In Mental Health Awareness week I decided to investigate loneliness and discovered some disconcerting facts. Mental Health Scotland’s survey, for example, carried out just four months before lockdown, stated that almost one in four young adults said they ‘often or always’ feel lonely.
