Home mission In the mid-1990s at an assembly in Liverpool we examined the whole idea of ‘home mission’ and proposed to the Xaverian Congregation that the vison of effective mission in the UK, we made a conscious choice to invest our energy, not in seeking male candidates for missionary priesthood, but in working for the formation of and collaboration with the laity. So in our various communities we tried to develop a lay Xaverian missionary movement, where we value the lay vocation and see lay people as collaborators, associates and members of our UK missionary presence. This has brought different degrees of success in different parts of the globe.
