Tackling poverty through patronage

The first parish conference of the Society of St Vincent de Paul (SSVP) in the Archdiocese of Glasgow, at that time called the Western District, was founded in St Andrew’s Cathedral in 1848. It was followed with such rapidity by other conferences that a Glasgow wide district conference was set up the following year, with a representative from each parish conference.
