Priests de la Resistance
by Lewis Cameron
Fergus Butler-Gallie is an Anglican clergyman who is presently Assistant Curate at Liverpool Parish Church. With his name it is not difficult to guess that he holds degrees from both Oxford and Cambridge and is already a published author about the clergy. The subtitle of this work is ‘The loose Canons who fought Fascism in the twentieth century’.
This book is not an examination of the troubling history of how Christians faced up to the rise of Fascism, especially the Nazis, anti Semitism and collaboration. It is instead a collection of portraits of individuals, mostly clergy and nuns, who protected their fellow human beings without any regard for their own safety.
