The Proclaimers – this is the story

by Paul Matheson

Craig and Charlie Reid, the celebrated identical twins from Auchtermuchty in Fife, are the singer-songwriters world-famously known as The Proclaimers. In this TV programme, we learn how their career started and developed. We hear and see footage of their songs and their gigs over the years. Best of all, we hear the thoughts and views of Craig and Charlie themselves, in response to questions about their song-writing inspiration and process.

The interviewer is the actor David Tennent, himself a fan of theirs. (He had their song ‘I Wanna Spend My Life With You’ played at his wedding as he walked down the aisle). We hear the views of people who know them well, such as fellow pop musicians and singer-songwriters Kevin Rowland and Paul Heaton. We also hear the views of cultural and political commentators like Muriel Grey and Nicola Sturgeon, who offer their opinions about The Proclaimers’ qualities and the reasons for their success.
