Interreligious dialogue in a time of conflict
A one day conference will be held at the Conforti Centre in Calder Avenue, Coatbridge, on October 18th. It will mark the 60th anniversary of Nostra Aetate, the Vatican II document on the Church’s approach to non-Christian faiths. The conference focus will be on dialogue in a time of conflict.
Speakers include Fr. John Gannon, a long time member of the Scottish Bishops’ Committee for Interreligious Dialogue.
Dr. Alessandra Cecolin, a history lecturer at Aberdeen University whose research focus includes political history and diplomatic strategies that characterised the sixty-year relationship between Iran and Israel; and the wider conflict between national and religious identity for Jewish minorities living in Middle East.
Dr. Liam Waldron, a member of the Council of Christians and Jews
Brian Fitzpatrick LLB, a former Labour MSP and advisor to Labour Government which has recently taken the decision to formally recognise a Palestinian state.

Anti Poverty march and rally
Justice & Peace Scotland is one of many organisations endorsing the Scotland Demands Better campaign led by the Poverty Alliance.
You are invited to join them on Saturday 25 October at a march and rally in Edinburgh. The march will begin at the Scottish Parliament around 11am and end in The Meadows, where there will be music, speeches and family-friendly activities.
The campaign is calling on politicians to make the changes we need for a society where every household can flourish and prosper: better jobs with fair pay, better investment in essentials like housing and transport, and a stronger social security system that gives everyone the foundations to thrive.
Visit the Scotland Demands Better website www.scotland-demands-better.com and learn more about the campaign aims and details of the March on October 25th.
Update on Open House
Following the decision of the editor to step down after 13 years at the helm, a new editorial board is being formed to take the magazine forward. There will be two more editions this year, in November and December, and next year we plan to move to quarterly editions. Each one will look in depth at a particular issue facing the church, as well as keeping open space for readers’ contributions and reviews.
More details to follow before the end of the year.
We are grateful to our readers for all their support.
