On Saturday 26th February, Open House hosted an online conference titled ”Liberation Theology Today”, marking the fiftieth anniversary of the publication of the English language of Gustavo Gutierrez’s seminal work, A Theology of Liberation.

Here we are pleased to publish the four keynote talks from the conference. We are extremely grateful to our speakers for their contributions to the day and for allowing us to share them with you in video format.

David Inczauskis is a Jesuit priest who teaches at Xavier University, Cincinnati. He encountered liberation theology in Guetemala while researching human right abuses and discusses its core concepts and relevance to his ministry today.

Teresa Forcades i Vila is a Benedictine nun, theologian, social activist and physician who lives in the mountain monastery of St Benet de Monserrat in Catalonia. She teaches theology and medical courses. She speaks here about liberation theology and Mary of Nazareth.

Duncan Maclaren was the first director of SCIAF and served as Head of International Relations and Secretary General of Caritas Internationalis. He recently completed a PhD on Integral Human Development at the University of Glasgow. Here, Duncan considers the relevance of liberation theology for Scotland today.
