Light in the Darkness

Our regular music critic chooses his favourite Christmas film: Martin McDonagh’s ‘In Bruges’.
In Bruges was released in 2008. It tells a tale of two London Irish hitmen: the serious, avuncular, older Ken (Brendan Gleeson) and his feckless young apprentice Ray (Colin Farrell). After a botched job by Ray in London, the pair are sent by their Cockney gangster boss Harry (Ralph Fiennes) to Bruges, allegedly to lay low for a while. Little by little our suspicion grows that Harry may want Ray removed permanently, and that Ken will have to decide whose side he is on.
