Towards a theology of synodality

by Mary Cullen

Synodality – journeying together – is the path on which Pope Francis set the church. It requires us to listen and learn from one another, especially to those who live on the margins of church or society. How can we listen? And what might we learn?

These are some of the questions that will be addressed at a conference in Eyre Hall, Glasgow, on Saturday 14 June.

It has been organised by the newly formed Scottish Catholic Theology Forum, which aims to promote dialogue, create a platform for theological reflection, and foster a synodal style of church.

The forum is open to all with an interest in theology.

Dr Tom Magill, theologian and retired priest of Motherwell diocese, will open the conference and consider how we get to a theology of synodality. There will be a session on synodality as a mark of the church, and another on the experience and hopes of women in the church, led by three women.

Each session will be followed by ‘conversations in the Spirit’ where participants respond to what they have heard and identify actions that could be taken forward in Scotland.

You are warmly invited to come along and take part on Saturday 14 June. The conference will be held in the Archdiocese of Glasgow’s Eyre Hall at 196 Clyde St, Glasgow G1 4JY, from 11am to 3.30pm. Doors will be open from 10.30am.
